About the event
A Death Cafe is a social gathering of people, often strangers from many walks of life, organized for the purpose of discussing death, without any formal agenda or commercial pressures. Anyone can attend and chat informally about different aspects of death, over tea and cake, with a goal of making the subject less taboo and scary. Death Cafes were pioneered by Jon Underwood in the U.K., based on the work of Swiss Sociologist Bernard Cretaz. First held in the U.S. by Lizzy Miles, they are now popular all over the world.
Death Cafe is free and open to the public, so come on by. This month we'll be a part of the New Orleans Healing Center's Health Fair for People and Pets event, happening from 11am until 4pm on Saturday, June 29th. Come enjoy the fair, and then come upstairs to Suite 204 at 2pm to talk about death with us!
The last half hour of Death Cafe includes a legal clinic, where you can learn about and pick up basic advance planning documents (Living Will, Health Care Power of Attorney, and/or Funeral and Disposition of Remains Directive), and have those forms notarized for free.
