August Community Deathcare Meeting

This month we’ll focus an aspect of (in)equality in the funeral industry. Funeral home conglomerates like SCI are gobbling up mom-and-pop funeral homes across the country, primarily those that are white-owned. Black funeral homes remain largely independent and have a unique history, as one of the first Black-owned business ventures allowed to flourish in the Jim Crow south, thus playing a vital role in the civil rights movement.

Wake's monthly Community Deathcare Meeting is an opportunity for those interested in end-of-life care in the New Orleans area to meet us, learn about the work we're doing, and investigate ways to plug into our mission.
